Eight months ago, their town and school suffered significant damage from Hurricane Harvey. However on Saturday evening, the students of Rockport-Fulton High School enjoyed their 2018 prom.
After Harvey damaged the High School’s cafeteria and gym, the school didn’t have the room to host this year’s prom. Thankfully La Palmera stepped up, offering their Center Court. It was converted into a dance floor, and a space for students to enjoy a night under the stars.
Sophomore, Brittany Davenport, shared her thoughts on when she first walked in.
“I was very surprised,” Davenport said. “I was like, ‘wow, it’s so pretty.'”
“It’s so amazing, it’s so cool,” Davenport added. “It’s incredible to actually have the mall host the prom for Rockport-Fulton High School.”
Just eight months ago, having their 2018 prom was an after thought. But La Palmera was able to give the students and staff a night they won’t forget. ?
It was the full prom experience. La Palmera provided the tables and chairs, a DJ, candid booth, formal photographer and refreshments.
For junior Leslie Nesbit, it was a chance to share the evening with her best friend by her side, the same person she says helped her get through the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.
“I love every part of this. And I’m just so happy to be here,” Nesbit said. “We made the best out of the biggest disaster ever.”
Scott Rogers, the Principal of Rockport Fulton High School adds, Saturday night was a chance for the students and staff to enjoy a sense of normalcy.
“We’re happy to be here,” Rogers said. “And we’re really appreciative that we could put this whole thing together for a wonderful night for the students.”
