The biggest motion picture theater chain in Latin America – which has U.S. locations in Florida and California – is coming to Texas for the first time with an upscale cinema complex at Victory Park.
Mexico City-based Cinepolis will operate an eight-screen, 44,000-square-foot luxury movie theater on Victory Park Lane just northwest of downtown Dallas.
“The new Victory Park couldn’t be a better fit for our entry into the Dallas market as its commitment to bringing in top-tier partners, its attention to detail and its excellent location will draw loyal and enthusiastic guests,” Neil Baron, Cinepolis vice president, said in a statement. “The pride we take in presenting guests with the best cinema experience is reflected through our decision to partner with the development.”
The 700-seat theater will be in the lower levels of a planned high-rise apartment tower that will be constructed by developer Lennar Multifamily Communities. The project will also include a 640-car parking garage and additional retail.
The theater and residential high-rise are scheduled to open in 2017, according to Trademark Property Co., which is handling the retail marketing and development for Victory Park.
The building is scheduled to start construction later this year. Cinepolis is the fourth-largest cinema operator in the world. It has locations throughout Latin America, in India and has been expanding in the United States since 2011.
The planned Victory Park theater will have fully-reclining leather seat auditoriums and an upscale lounge-style lobby. The cinema will provide customers a gourmet dining menu with in-theater waiter service.
The theater would be the biggest retail addition to Victory Park since the 75-acre development was built.
“This is an exciting day for Victory Park as we see a major entertainment anchor, Cinépolis USA, make a commitment to the district,” said Lance Fair, vice president of Victory Park. “Similarly, the efforts we’ve made to improve the district are resulting in significant interest in a variety of projects on the office and residential front.”
Developers are now adding more than 1,000 new apartments to the project and additional office space is planned in a high-rise building. Developer Greystar is starting construction this summer on a 2-tower residential development at Victory Park with more than 300 luxury rental units.
Construction will also start next month an a 250-car parking garage on Lamar Street in Victory Park.
The mixed-use development – anchored by the American Airlines Center arena – is between Dallas’ booming Uptown district and downtown.
The development currently has 165,000 square feet of retail, restaurant and entertainment space. An additional 80,000 square feet of retail is planned.
Victory Park also has 621,000 square feet of office space, the 252-room W Dallas – Victory Hotel and more than 1,700 residential units.
