Launch event on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2-4 p.m. will celebrate the newest addition to Victory’s public art program

DALLAS (Oct. 30, 2017) – Victory Park has added a bold new sculpture from Las Vegas-based artist Tim Bavington to its growing public art program. To celebrate, the community is invited to stop by on Thursday, Nov. 2 from 2 to 4 p.m. to check out the new statement piece outside of the W Dallas – Victory Hotel, have their photo snapped, and grab a free energy bite from Freshii for an afternoon pick-me-up.

Made with steel pipe and automotive paint, Bavington’s sculpture, titled “Matchbox,” stands 15 feet high by 34 feet wide. The piece is a visual translation of the same-titled song recorded by The Beatles in 1964, which was chosen for both its connection to the artist’s British roots and the song’s Texan roots, as it was performed by blues singer Blind Lemon Jefferson in 1927, whose career began with playing Dallas street corners just a few miles from Victory Park.

Born in England in 1966, Bavington has resided in Las Vegas since 1993, where he earned his master’s

degree in fine arts from the University of Las Vegas. Shortly thereafter, he introduced guitar scales into his artistic practice, which continually influenced his art, whether through sculpture or painting.

Bavington’s work is included in a number of public collections across the world, including a recent addition to the permanent collection of the Museum of Fine Art Houston.

The sculpture joins Victory’s growing public art program, which also includes five vibrant murals by local artist Lesli Marshall, an eight-foot steel sculpture in the “Victory-sign” hand gesture by California-based artist Nathan Mabry, 15 sculptural bike racks, and additional pieces rolling out in the coming months.

“This one-of-a-kind sculpture from Tim Bavington has such a unique inspiration behind it that ties together his background and bits of Dallas history,” said Terry Montesi, CEO, Trademark Property Co. “We want to give people unique, memorable experiences when they come to Victory Park, and Tim’s work, along with the other public art spread throughout the district, is sure to be a highlight.”

The public art is part of the district redevelopment led by owner Estein USA and retail partner

Trademark Property Co. As part of these transformation efforts, Victory is undergoing a full remerchandising, adding 85,000 square feet of new retail space, and making key district enhancements to evolve into an authentic, walkable and soulful urban neighborhood.

Redevelopment efforts are also resulting in several new tenants, adding to the more than 20 retailers and restaurants that currently call Victory Park home. A curated collection of seven new local food and beverage tenants will open in the next year, including concepts from Tristan Simon, HG Sply Co.’s Elias Pope, This & That Concepts, Brooke Humphries, and Mesero. Other openings in the coming months include Orangetheory Fitness, Cinépolis Luxury Cinemas – Victory Park, and The 23, a new 285-unit mixed-use apartment community by LMC. Additional parking and a state-of-the-art valet program, as well as lighting and technology upgrades, will also roll out in 2017.
