Painted, themed deer to be displayed throughout the shopping and entertainment destination
HOUSTON, TX (November 2, 2015) – A collection of porcelain deer, each painted to reflect an artistic interpretation of Houston, will be displayed throughout Rice Village as the shopping and entertainment destination debuts “Deck The Deer.”
Houston artist Jon Garner used five-foot figures to portray imagery of Houston, local sports, Rice Village, Rice University and a vintage Christmas. After serving as their caretaker for the better part of two months, Garner and the Rice Village team will carefully install the art deer for shoppers to enjoy throughout the holiday season. The five art deer will be on display at (locations within Rice Village) November 20 through December 31, 2015.
Known for fusing pop culture with he natural beauty of Texas, Garner’s work has become popular with the likes of celebrities Erykah Badu, Alfonso Ribeiro and Chad Michael Murray.
Shoppers are encouraged to post photos with the art deer on Instagram using the hashtags #RiceVillage and #DeckTheDeer for the chance to win $50 gift cards to select Rice Village merchants.
Rice Village recently announced a multi-million dollar renovation of the property that will include high-tech parking amenities, improved walkability and an updated tenant mix along with aesthetic updates to the current brick façade. “Deck the Deer” will be the first of many art and community initiatives events scheduled for 2015 and beyond at the shopping and entertainment destination.
