NAPA, Calif. (September 20, 2017) – First Street Napa, a 325,000-square-foot mixed-use development in the heart of Downtown Napa that will encompass 45 retail shops and restaurants, new creative office space, and a 183-room Archer Hotel, announced today that Overland Sheepskin Co., Inc. will relocate from Yountville and open its new store within the project at 1202 First Street. A family-owned company known for high-quality leather and sheepskin outerwear and accessories, Overland will move to the restored and historic Beckstoffer Building within the First Street Napa complex at the northwest corner of First Street and Coombs Street with a projected opening date of January 2018. As Napa’s newest epicenter of culture and creativity, First Street Napa is quickly emerging as a premier destination for world-class merchants, designers, and original retail concepts.
“We’ve been in Yountville for 28 years, and after a year of searching for our next location, we’re looking forward to our move to Downtown Napa,” said Overland co-owner Roger Leahy. “The beautiful and historic Beckstoffer Building, with its mix of rugged authenticity and Napa style, is a great fit for the Overland brand, and we’re excited to continue to serve our loyal Napa customers right from the heart of the valley.”
The first Overland outlet opened in 1973 in a small adobe storefront in Taos, New Mexico, offering sheepskin apparel made with meticulous craftsmanship. More than 40 years, 15 more stores, and one thriving internet business later, the small family shop’s passion for quality and exceptional service have remained the hallmarks of the business. Their new store in Downtown Napa will carry an extensive collection of the finest sheepskin coats, leather jackets, wool coats, sheepskin slippers, leather bags, sheepskin rugs, cowhides, and accessories.
“The commitment to relocate a thriving business from Yountville to Downtown Napa speaks volumes for the direction and progress being made to enrich and enliven the core of Napa Valley. Overland understands the future vision for Downtown Napa, and made the decision to follow the shifting momentum and secure an incredible, prime space for their business along the First Street corridor,” said Todd Zapolski, principal of Zapolski Real Estate, LLC. “With nearly 70 percent of all visitors to Napa Valley visiting Napa proper, the move is a logical one.”
Overland will occupy approximately 2,000 square feet of space on the ground floor of the Beckstoffer Building – neighboring the recently opened Brown Downtown Tasting Lounge located on the upper level of the building. Acquired in 2014 by a Beckstoffer Family Trust, the former Napa Register Building is on the National Historic Register and is important both architecturally and historically to the City of Napa. It is one of the few remaining examples of turn-of-the-century commercial architecture in Napa’s downtown and was designed by Napa’s leading architect of the time, Luther M. Turton. Andy Beckstoffer purchased and restored this landmark commercial building with promise to add to downtown’s rebirth. Now fully occupied, the Beckstoffer building marks a key corner for the First Street Napa re-development. The building has been seismically retrofitted and fully restored with high ceilings, an abundance of natural light, and major street improvements including a two-way direction on First Street and the conversion of Coombs Street from pedestrian-only to one-way vehicular traffic.
First Street Napa, owned and managed by Zapolski Real Estate, LLC and Trademark Property Company, is slated to open the first series of shops and restaurants in late 2017 with continued openings phased throughout 2018. The project recently announced retail, culinary, hospitality, and creative office space tenants that include Archer Hotel Napa, a Maris Collective boutique, Lush, Compline Wine Bar, Silicon Valley Bank, Pacific Union International, Napa Valley Jewelers, Eiko’s Sushi, Charlie Palmer Steak, and Brown Estate. About Overland Sheepskin Co., Inc.
In 1973, Jim Leahy arrived in Taos, New Mexico, with a bale of sheepskins and a sewing machine. He set up the first Overland store, a humble adobe shop between the rugged Sangre de Cristo range and the Rio Grande Valley. The young entrepreneur proceeded to create beautiful, high-quality sheepskin coats, hats, mittens, and slippers—meticulously cutting and stitching everything by hand. Today, family-owned and operated, Overland features 15 retail stores throughout North America and a thriving online business, offering the highest quality sheepskin coats, leather jackets, luxurious fur and leather accessories, shoes, bags, slippers, and home decor. Overland’s family atmosphere has remained the backbone of the business, with a passion for quality matched by exceptional service. For more information, please visitwww.overland.com.
